Description

ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This truly beautiful and exceedingly rare LP from Ducretet-Thomson (320 C 125, French pressing, brown/white/yellow label, mono – no stereo edition exists, original inner sleeve included) features the young Paul Jacobs, future staff pianist of the New York Philharmonic, in a path-finding survey of the piano music of Arnold Schoenberg, recorded at the Salle Aydar, Paris on 10 January 1957. This survey can be spoken of in the same breath as those by Pollini and Gould – fifty years on this remains a landmark in the Schoenberg discography.

Included is the 4-page booklet with musical analysis written by no less than Pierre Boulez.

Included are the following piano works of Arnold Schoenberg:

Three Pieces for Piano Op. 11

Six Little Pieces for Piano Op. 19

Five Pieces for Piano Op. 23

Suite for Piano Op. 25

Piece for Piano Op. 33a

Piece for Piano Op. 33b

Incidentally, the strking cover art is by Nicholas Ferguson, the liner notes (in French only) by Bernard Gavoty.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. The flaws are quite minimal. There is edgewear, slight bumping at corners, and mild discoloration to the rear panel. However, the jacket is without seamsplits and remains solid and bright, the artwork retaining its colorful lustre – very much a fine collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD. Although there is light surface noise, generally speaking the playback is excellent. If you desire a flawless or near-MINT copy, however, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this is a very good, near excellent, collector's copy.
