Description
Here's a rare record featuring the great Janos Starker on cello. This features Kodaly Sonata for unaccompanied cello Opus 8. This was released by Period out of the US in mono. This is an early pressing featuring very heavy vinyl and plumb/silver labels that say "Micro Groove". Original, rarely seen red jacket design.
Condition - The jacket shows general wear, particularly around the edges, and there is a small sticker on the front, but nothing too terrible. The jacket grades at VG+. The record has some shine, but it has been played and has accumulated some marks, particularly on side A. By sight, side A grades at about VG, while side B looks a little better and closer to VG+. I listened to both sides and was pleasantly surprised that they both played much better than they looked. Both sides played at a strong VG+, side B maybe a little better. There was light background noise, but except for a few louder pops and clicks in odd places, it wasn't really a distraction. I have owned later pressings of this recording and have always enjoyed it, but have never heard this early of a pressing. To my ears, this record did have particularly warm and engaging sound.
Regarding shipping - I ship quickly using new professional grade materials.
Regarding grading - I try to grade by Goldmine standards. I do not use the grade Mint on unsealed, opened records. The highest grade I give to unsealed records is Near Mint. Grading here is strictly by sight.
