Here we has Jazz! It’s a complete history (well... complete up to 1956 anyway) of Jazz, on 12 discs and it’s entitled The RCA VICTOR ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RECORDED JAZZ, a US original monthly subscription set from 1956.

The twelve 10” LP albums are in garish original sleeves.

There is also some RCA advertising bumph inside one of ‘em.

Every sleeve has a tiny trace of old sticky-back-plastic on the opening edge.

They were issued like this, when they were posted out to eager US Jazz fans in 1956, when the LP format was still fairly new.

The sleeves are a good strong VG or better (despite the sticky remarks above).

The featured artistes range from Charlie Parker (in the years before he became Lady Penelope’s chauffeur, and invented the fountain pen) back to Leadbelly, The Original Dixieland Jazz Band, and Louis Armstrong.

The set does lean rather heavily towards Big Band jazz, but there’s enough New Orleans and Chicago small-group jazz to satisfy the duffle-coat brigade.

The TWELVE 10” discs are all in splendid playable condition.

None are scratched or scuffed, although two or three have a slight haze (probably from 64 years of storage) which does NOT affect the sound.

I would conservatively rate them as a strong VG+ or better.

The sound transcription, from RCA originals, is exceptionally good throughout.

Here’s who’s on it (in alphabetical order.. hence the “All to Bec” and “Bei to Cla” prefixes).

The discs have been examined by Mr Fuffy, the ferocious one-eyed feral cool cat who lives in our garden. When I take things outside to photograph them in daylight he insists on getting into the shot, and nobody says “no” to Mr Fuffy.

I'm selling most of this stuff for much less than I paid for it.

What a great business plan (I don't think)!

The  12 LP set in the photograph is the 12 LP set you will get.

You will NOT get Mr Fuffy.
