Description

Charlie Parker--Charlie Parker With Strings--Mercury MG C-101. From 1950, and somewhat scarce, Parker (nicknamed "Yardbird") had an urge to play with a string section, hence the name of this 10 incher. This format didn't last, 12 inch LP's would eventually win the format war. Parker died very young at 34 years of age, what a shame, I listened to this twice, and this in my opinion is nothing less than great!! Let's go over the cover, there's a roughly 4 inch split along the top, a tight one inch split at the bottom right corner. The graphics aren't to bad, color looks good, the spine is remarkably intact, the back is a bit rough, some staining and wear, the bio is fairly legible. Now then, the vinyl is in excellent shape!!! Visually, a scuff mark and a tiny mark, scratch or two and that's it!! Like I stated above, hearing is believing!! A few very minor things, there's some VERY faint crackling located in the first track of side one and a low sounding pop, side two, track three. Other than that, we're finished! Now on the label, there looks to be brush marks (shellac?) you can barely see them, just guessing. Other thing is that in researching, the first pressings of this have Reeves-Fairchild Margin Control on the right side of both labels. Don't know what that's about, maybe you know, perhaps. So, bottom line, will go with a very decent VG- for the cover and a REAL nice VG+ for the disc. Six nice sides, winner pays $3.00 for postage/handling and $14.00 for overseas bidders.
