Condition:

DISC:  NEAR MINT with 100% of original gloss, playing surfaces are immaculate.  Appears to have been played one or two times at most, and handled with care.  Labels are clean, except small numbered sticker on side 2 label.  Fidelity is superb.  A gorgeous disc you will never need to upgrade.

JACKET:  Jacket is VG+.  Front artwork is clean and bright, with a few slight traces of ring wear just beginning to appear.  There is also a small stain at top left where a round price sticker appears to have been removed.  Nice seams and spine, with a bit of wear at the top and bottom left corners.  Reverse is clean with no writing or stickers.  Overall a very nice jacket to accompany the beautiful disc.

  • These Foolish Things
  • Hackensack
  • It Could Happen to You

Review:

“Softly As a Summer Breeze is one of Jimmy Smith’s more obscure Blue Notes.  The six-song trio program finds the organist joined by either guitarist Kenny Burrell and drummer Philly Joe Jones or guitarist Eddie McFadden and drummer Donald Bailey.  In the original liner notes, Leonard Feather makes it seem like a ballad-oriented set, but "Hackensack" really cooks, "Sometimes I'm Happy" struts, and "One For Philly Joe" (a familiar but unplaceable melody used for a later pop tune) has its exciting moments.  What is unusual about the set is the absence of any blues..”
