For your consideration is a rare vintage 10 inch 78 rpm by Don Clark and His Orchestra entitled I've Got the Girl b/w Idolizing. Bing Crosby began his involvement in performing music around 1923 in his hometown of Spokane, Washington. He began performing with another Spokane native, Al Rinker, who was the younger brother of the rising star Mildred Rinker, more commonly known by her married name Mildred Bailey. After spending a few years performing locally for college age kids and on radio, they decided to move to Los Angeles to try and make it big. Using Mildred as a first contact, they were able to establish themselves as a modestly popular local singing act. Their lively presence made them once again very popular with the college crowd and with dancers. After moving from an accompanying act to an independent one, they were spotted by a member of Paul Whiteman's band, who had been looking for an act which was different from his own and that would provide more variety to his shows. In late 1926, in less than a year of professional performing, they were already associated with perhaps the biggest popular music name of the day. Don Clark, a former sax player in Whiteman's band and a close associate of Whiteman, offered to schedule the two for an upcoming recording date. I've Got the Girl, features Crosby singing barely audibly over Al Rinker, whose voice is much more prominent. The two also sound a little too high pitched, as Columbia like to "juice" their records, by recording them a little slow, so when played back at 78 rpm they would sound more lively. The correct speed for this record is around 75 rpm. Notice also the absence of Harry Barris, who would complete the trio of the legendary Rhythm Boys act so closely associated with Whiteman. Shortly after this record was cut, there would be  series of disastrous live appearances with Whiteman, where Rinker and Crosby couldn't be heard at all in the large dance halls / theatres and Whiteman considered dropping the act. However, the powerful presence of Barris was added instead and the classic Rhythm Boys lineup was born. Hard to come by and very neat item. Hear below!

Please keep in mind that rather economical equipment was used and 78s only received a light cleaning. For the highest fidelity reproduction results, a correct sized, well maintained stylus should always be used and antique records should also always receive a deep cleaning with a stiff bristled brush and a non-alcohol based soap. I do not provide grading beyond what is required by eBay.
