Artist & Title: Jethro Tull – Songs From the Wood

The sleeve looks like new and the vinyl looks – and sounds – flawless. A superb copy!

This is the extremely rare real thing: a genuine Mint/Mint condition UK first issue. The record, cover and inner sleeve are all in superb condition, without any obvious defects like scratches, tears, creases, stickers, writing, dog ears, stains and the like. See pics. The LP is the original UK 1977 stereo LP, which was only played a few times on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.
THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF THIS ESSENTIAL PROG FOLK/PROG ROCK ALBUM EVER OFFERED FOR SALE IN RECENT TIMES
Songs from the Wood is the tenth studio album by Jethro Tull and is considered to be the first of a trio of folk rock albums (Songs from the Wood, Heavy Horses and Stormwatch) despite the fact that folk music elements are present in the work of Jethro Tull both before and after this trilogy. Songs from the Wood was the first Tull album to receive unambiguously positive reviews since the time of Thick as a Brick. Filled with folk and fantasy imagery, and ornamental folk arrangement, the album is a departure from the hard rock of earlier Tull material, though it still retained some of the band's older sound.
The cover of the album features Ian Anderson sporting a leather jerkin. The album cover, despite its photographic appearance, is actually a painting by artist Jay L. Lee.
“In my opinion this is among Jethro Tull's best.”
This may be your only ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to own this rare piece of rock history in this condition.
Far and away the prettiest record Jethro Tull released, at least since Thick as a Brick, and a special treat for anyone with a fondness for the group's more folk-oriented material. Ian Anderson had moved to the countryside sometime earlier, and it showed in his choice of source material. The band's aggressive rock interplay and Anderson's fascination with early British folk melodies produce a particularly appealing collection of songs -- the seriousness with which the group took this effort can be discerned by the album's unofficial "full" title on the original LP: "Jethro Tull With Kitchen Prose, Gutter Rhymes, and Divers Songs from the Wood." The group's sound was never more carefully balanced between acoustic folk and hard rock -- the result is an album that sounds a great deal like the work of Tull's Chrysalis Records labelmates Steeleye Span (though Nigel Pegrum never attacked his cymbals -- or his entire drum kit -- with Barriemore Barlow's ferocity). The harmonizing on "Songs From the Wood" fulfils the promise shown in some of the singing on Thick as a Brick, and the delicacy of much of the rest, including "Ring Out, Solstice Bells" (where the group plays full out, but with wonderful elegance), "Hunting Girl," and "Velvet Green," set a new standard for the group's sound. "Pibroch (Cap in Hand)," which is dominated by Martin Barre's electric guitar – in a stunning array of overlapping flourishes at full volume – is the only concession to the group's usual hard rock rave-ups, and even it has some lovely singing to counterbalance the bulk of the song.
A fantastic time warp example of this rarity in amazing condition, a true investment grade item - get it while you can!
