Description
“You Don’t Mess Around with Jim,” the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Jim Croce, was released in April 1972 by Lifesong Records. The album, recorded over three to four weeks for approximately $18,000 funded mainly by PolyGram Group, reflects Croce’s compelling storytelling and musical versatility. Despite initial rejections from numerous record labels, Lifesong Records signed Croce after his production team, Cashman & West, facilitated a chance meeting with the label. The album, known for blending pop, rock, and soft rock styles, reached the top of the US Billboard 200 and Canadian RPM 100 charts in 1974, spurred by the posthumous success of “Time in a Bottle.” It also includes the memorable title track, illustrating Croce’s unique narrative style. The album spent a notable 93 weeks on the charts and was certified gold in the United States.
