This auction is for the ORIGINAL, ULTRA-RARE, 2LP Paperboard COVER ONLY of: The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Electric Ladyland ***AGAIN*** THIS AUCTION DOES NOT CONTAIN THE LPs, JUST THE COVER. This ORIGINAL 1968 COVER marketed by POLYDOR is in VG++ Condition (6). There are a few minor creases from normal handling, but these don't affect the picture. The picture itself is not worn, but the edges show light whitening and the corners are slightly worn. The inside picture of Jimi and the inside in general is in Excellent condition. View pictures for more detail as well. Released in October 1968, “Electric Ladyland” has been considered the best album from Jimi Hendrix discography and one of the essential releases from the 60’s. The album was first released in the US in September 1968 with it’s original cover sleeve by Karl Ferris, featuring a picture of Jimi Hendrix. Apparently, when the album was first released in UK a month later the record company didn’t have the original art sleeve ready for printing and they decided to feature this other version with a group of naked girls. Of course, the release of the album in the UK was controversial and Hendrix hated this album cover himself. His family, who owns the album rights, decided that the original UK cover wouldn’t be used anymore, although in 1980 a rare CD re-issue featured it. MORE BACKGROUND: Following the first two Jimi Hendrix' albums, instantly acclaimed as classics, Electric Ladyland propelled Jimi Hendrix into the Olympian stratosphere (indeed, portions of the album sound as if they were recorded there). After this album, there was no doubt in anyone's mind: Jimi had absolutely no peers whatsoever and was the new Electric Guitar "God". He would remain one until this day. The album features an incredible cast of characters and supporting crew, some of whom are UNCREDITED. Al Kooper, Steve Winwood and Jefferson Airplane's Jack Cassady are known to have played on the sessions and are officially credited; Johnny Winter, Stephen Stills and Jim Morrison (whose murmuring and drunken rants can purportedly be heard in the background of "Voodoo Chile - slight return") are rumored to be among the guests.
