Relisted as my photos of the naked ladies on the outer faces of the cover did not comply with Ebay UK's rules.
Original Jimi Hendrix Experience Electric Ladyland double LP on Track Records catalogue number 613 008?09. Disc 1 comprises sides A and D, disc 2 comprises sides B and C. These are easily confirmed as first pressings as the ELECTRIC LADYLAND title on the labels overlaps the central indent whereas on later pressings the title is clear of the central indent. They also have the suffixed catalogue numbers (613008A, 613008B etc) upside down and in brackets above the main 613008 catalogue number on each label. The discs are in their original white poly lined inner sleeves marked Made In England 108 which as far I'm aware were also only used for the first Track pressings. In case you wonder, the bottom left corner of each inner sleeve is just folded back to make them easier to insert they are not cut off.
The gatefold cover designed by David King is hi-gloss laminated inside and out with the naked ladies photo, which Jimi was very cross about, taken by photographer David Montgomery on the outer faces. Inside there is the large colour photo of Jimi along with sepia photos of Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. With regard to cover creases - there are none on the front, there are a couple on the back and one on the inside. The lamination is just starting to peel away along the edges of the front and back outer covers, otherwise the cover is in pretty good condition considering it's now over 40 years old. As mentioned above, due to Ebay UK regulations, I am not able to include photos of the outer covers.
I purchased the LPs brand new on their initial release (shows how old I am!) and they have only been played on good quality hi-fi turntables (Mainly a Thorens with a Shure pickup in the early years and recently a ProJect turntable with an ADC cartridge to check the sound). Prior to every play the discs have always been cleaned using the excellent Pixall cleaner, refills for which can still be purchased on Ebay. Visually side A has one scratch mark going from the outer run-in groove to just inside the beginning of track 2, otherwise sides A, B, C and D look perfect. I've listened carefully to all four sides and have heard the following - there's a repeating pop to be heard in the quiet sections of side A track 1 And The Gods Made Love (which corelates with the visible scratch mark mentioned above), there is one isolated pop near the beginning of side A track 4 Voodoo Chile, there is one iolated pop near the beginning of side D track 3 All Along the Watchtower, to my ear there are no abnormal sounds on side B while finally on side C there are a couple of pops near the end of track 2 1983. Jimi and Stevie Winwood's playing on Voodoo Chile still sounds extraordinary to me.
The free audio CD I'm including is the Electric Ladyland 40th Anniversary Collectors Edition produced by Universal in 2008. It is in perfect condition (I've only played it once) and has the same running order as the LPs above (in order of sides A, B, C, D that is). The only difference between the LP's song listing and the CD's is that the LP version ends with Voodoo Chile (slight return), whereas the CD ends with Voodoo Child (slight return) - note the subtle spelling difference. The CD is marked 'For Promotional Use Only - Not For Sale', hence the free addition to my sale here. It sounds to me as if the sound balance of the mix is quite different on the CD as it has significantly more 'bite' to it than the mix on the LPs. The CD is not marked with any catalogue number.
The free DVD-R I'm including is a 1 hour 26 minute recording of the Universal Music documentary which goes into the recording of Electric Ladyland. It includes interviews with the surviving players including Mitch Mitchell, Noel Redding, Stevie Winwood and Buddy Miles, Eddie Kramer the engineer (who plays some great mixes and extracts from the original tapes), Chas Chandler etc etc, some live concert and TV footage plus home movies from the time. The DVD-R is a Verbatim unmarked disc. Note on some systems or players you'll get no sound unless you go into the DVD's menu and change the sound setup to PCM Stereo.
