Description

Jimmy Hendrix Experience – Electric Ladyland

Track 613008/9 1968 Double LP

Matrix Numbers:-

I found these quite hard to make out as they are a mixture of machine stamped numbers, crossings out and hand written amendments.

Here goes:-

Matrix number A-side:

61300 8A//1 (8 amended by hand)

Matrix number D-side:

61300 8 B//1 (8 amended by hand)

Matrix number B-side:

61300 9A//1 (9A amended by hand)

Matrix number C-side:

61300 9 B//1 (All written by hand with the original scored out)

All four sides have a “1” printed to the right of the matrix number

The album is in very good* condition. A few lines and an occasional minor click. About 7 minutes in there are 3 clicks on “Voodoo Chile”.

Side B has a blemish at “6.30”. I can see, but cannot feel, this “foggy” band which goes across the disc. To my ears this does not have any detectable effect of the sound quality. Play the second file starting with “Little Miss Strange” to check this out.

A photograph is included which demonstrates this. I tweaked the brightness of this image to highlight this feature.

I also have included a example photograph of the Track label with the odd upside down catalogue number.

I have played the album right through and am really impressed by the overall “soundscape” and, of course, the quality of the playing.

I offer you a chance to hear this copy via ecommerplayer. (ecommerceplayer.com). All four sides are there. (One track per side) As this double album was made to be played using an autochanger sides A & D are on the first disc whilst sides B & C make up the second.

My request is that you listen before placing any bid.

(This album recorded on my Rega turntable using “Audacity”, exported as 128 kbps MP3 file and uploaded into eCommerce Player. No editing whatsoever.)

The sleeve is in very good condition. A scuffed top to the spine, a few creases in the lamination (Top right corner as a tangent to the record) and the usual curves where the edges of the records show. Actually there are numerous curves on this famous sleeve!

The inside is excellent with a striking portrait of Hendrix and sepia photos of Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding. The text beneath is printed in blue and has a wayward use of upper and lower case. (As reproduced below.)

Records are in “poly lined” white sleeves which are in very good condition. These do not match so one or both may not be original.

Images are of the album offered at this auction.

Voodoo Chile

Produced and directed by Jimi Hendrix

Nowhere on the sleeve does it state who plays what but I understand that guests included members of Traffic and Jack Cassidy from Jefferson Airplane.

42 year old album on the Track label. A few creases on the cover and discs that have certainly been played. To my ears it sounds fantastic though the extreme use of stereo is, well, extreme.

I understand that the matrix numbers and cover text colour indicate that this is one of the earliest to have been pressed.

Should you have any query about this record I will attempt to give you a prompt reply. It will be auctioned over 7 days and it will run the full course.

Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
