UPDATE ON APRIL 1, 2017: ATTENTION ALL BUYERS: IN RESPONSE TO AN INQUIRY, I HAVE ELIMINATED THE FOLLOWING SENTENCE: "It is the original 1960s release, not a later re-issue, or reproduction."
Up for auction is an VERY RARE 45 RPM vinyl record by a great teen age garage band from the Pacific Northwest. This record has a white label and is specifically marked: "Promotional Copy".
Artist: Jimmy Hanna With The Dynamics
Label: Seafair Bolo Records (Distributed by ATCO Record Sales, 1841 Broadway, N.Y., N.Y.)
Number: 45-752
One Side (SFB-9144): "Leaving Here" (Holland - Dozier - Holland), Pub., Jobete, BMI, Time 2:18. [THIS SIDE IS MARKED "PROMOTIONAL COPY" AND ALSO "PLUG SIDE".]
The wax matrix marks on this side include "B-752-A" "SFB-9144" and "(Delta sign)56828". Note that some copies of this record spell "Leaving" as "Leavin'". My copy is spelled "Leaving".
Other side (SFB-9143): "Someone Somewhere" (Parker), Pub., Don, BMI, Time 3:07 [THIS SIDE IS MARKED "PROMOTIONAL COPY" BUT IS NOT MARKED "PLUG SIDE".]
The wax matrix marks on this side include "B-752-B" "SFB-9143" and "(Delta sign)56828-X". Note that some copies of this record have a comma between the words "Someone" and "Somewhere". My copy does not have the comma.
According to the website of Northwest Music Archives, the Dynamics were the top teen R&B (Rhythm and Blues) band in North Seattle between the years 1959 - 1968. In 1961, there were a number of personnel changes to the original band. Singer Jimmy Hanna was associated with The Dynamics between 1961 and 1966. Jimmy was the son of Tom and Ellen Ogilvy, who operated Seafair Records. Other bandmembers at this time included: Terry Afdem (keys), Jeff Afdem (sax), Pete Borg (bass), Ron Woods (drums) and - perhaps a bit later - Larry Coryell (guitar) and Mark Doubleday (trumpet). [Coryell would go on to the greatest fame as a jazz guitarist, as the "Godfather of fusion".]
The Dynamics became mainstays on the teen dance circuit promoted by radio station KJR disc jockey Pat O'Day. They shared the stage with such artists as The Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, Bobby Freeman, Jan and Dean, The Astronauts, and Terry Black. By 1966, lead singer Jimmy Hanna has left to group to front his own 11 piece "blues-big band".
Jimmy Hanna With The Dynamics were a leading example of the "Northwest Sound" of the 1960s. They were a full fledged R&B horn band, prior to Blood Sweat and Tears or Tower of Power.
See above for more on condition (which is very nice) and for photos.
