Extremely Rare Joe Dolan and The Drifters Showband MONO GGL 0424 PYE RECORDS LTD 1968 Made in England.
This is a great and very, very rare piece of memorabilia from late 60's, and great story behind it.
It all started when Bob Hilliard wrote The Answer To Everything, little did they know how much it was destined to influence the course of a certain Irish Showbands career. I first heard it sung by Del Shannon and regarded it as ideal material for the Irish charts in general.... and for Joe Dolan, lead singer of the Drifters Showband, Mullingar, in particular. Happily, the Drifters astute manager, Seamus Casey, shared my confidence in the song and proceeded to set things in motion. The answer to everything proved a prophetic title for the Drifters, acting as a springboard to very highest level of showband scene, where you'll find them entrenched toady. I was an interested observer that summer night in 1964, when Joe Dolan and six colleagues, unsure of themselves and their surroundings, but doing their best to conceal the fact, cautiously moved there equipment into a recording studio - Silverpine Studios, Bray, to be exact for first time. When record was released it became an instant hit, reaching fourth place on national chart and remaining in top ten for many weeks. THE DRIFTERS suddenly found themselves a major Irish recording force. As their name suggests, you want find the Drifters standing still, in either the music or the physical sense. Their schedule is so arduous and demanding that it's difficult enough to find time to make a single. hoe they managed to set aside sufficient time to cut this L.P. must remain their secret........ (read rest of the story on back of the L.P) So step right up and experience the eloquence of the Drifters - by great Ken Stewart.
