Description

John Coltrane - Acension

(Impulse/ HMV CSD 3543 UK Stereo LP 1966)

This is an extremely early UK Stereo pressing from 1966. This copy has an original USA "Impulse" Mono gatefold sleeve. The record is pressed in the UK on the HMV label. The vinyl is a UK Stereo pressing.

This copy, as stated, has a heavyweight front laminated gatefold sleeve. The catalogue number of the sleeve is "A-95". It is a "Mono" USA sleeve. It comes with its original generic UK company "EMI" plain paper inner sleeve. The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has "black & red" "HMV" labels. The labels have "The Gramophone Co..." text around the perimeter of the labels. It also has the "Sold in UK..." label text. There is an embossed "KT" company tax code around the spindle hole on Side 2's label. The 1st press matrix numbers are AS 95-A1 and AS-95-B1. The mother stampers are G 1 and G 1 respectively.

This is a genuine UK 1st press Stereo LP of this classic mid 1960's Free Jazz LP. This is the earliest pressing which has a U.S. pressed Mono sleeve. The record has the earliest matrix numbers and mother stampers. The labels have "The Gramophone Co..." and "Sold in UK..." texts too. These are not that common. I have some other rare & collectable UK original 1960's & 1970's Folk, Jazz, Prog, Psych, Rock etc... LP's for sale. Please see my other listings.

Gatefold Sleeve: There is mild, very mild or more moderate rubbing wear to the corner tips. There is some light, very mild or very minor hairline rubbing wear on the sleeve opening edges on a few areas. This hardly really notices under a strong light. There is light or very mild fading, to a varying degree, to the white areas of the sleeve. This includes the inner gatefold. The inner gatefold is in very nice condition overall. There is mild fading to the spine. Otherwise, the spine is in very nice condition. The spine text is perfectly legible. There is some light, very mild or very minor ringwear on a very few areas. This is mainly on the rear sleeve. Overall, Very Good++ condition. This sleeve is not too far from being in Near Excellent condition.

Vinyl: There are some light, mild, very mild or very minor surface sleeve rubs which can hardly be seen under a strong light. The original paper inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, mild, very mild or very minor dull surface marks on some areas. Some of these are feint speckled dull surface marks. These, again, can only be seen under a strong light. Overall, Very Good++ condition. The labels are in Excellent+ condition & show minimal spindle wear only.

The original company plain paper inner sleeve is in Very Good++ condition. There is some light, very mild or very minor ringwear, fading & creasing. There are no seam splits.

I have fully play tested this LP. It plays Very Excellent to Excellent overall & Excellent+ in many places. There is some light or very minor crackle in a very few quieter places. There is a very mild click at the very end of Side 2. There are no other clicks or pops. Overall, a great audio copy!
