Description
John Coltrane BALLADS - ORG 2LP 180 gram 45RPM Edition - sealed, mint and LONG out of print. Mastered by Bernie Grundman and pressed at Pallas Group. Gorgeous record with Coltrane's classic Impulse! era band: McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and of course Mr. Elvin Jones!
Condition: The LP is sealed and mint. However, as you can see in Picture 3, there is a small opening in the outer shrink along the lower left corner. This has NO affect on the LP cover.
ABOUT 45 RPM PRESSINGS
While some folks don't like the 45 RPM format (yes, you do have to get up and change sides more often), it's not hype: with more vinyl real estate for your stylus to operate within, volume levels are maintained consistently across all tracks (with 33 1/3, as you get closer to the inner groove you will lose volume because the grooves get smaller), and there's LOTS more room for the bass frequencies. A mastering engineer has to juggle all these factors, usually leading to certain compromises, when pressing at 33 1/3. The common wisdom in the audiophile community is that, when done well, 45 rpm pressings are as close as you'll get to the master tape.
