LUSH LIFE -
John Coltrane's Prestige years began when he joined the Miles Davis Quintet in 1955. Durning the next few years, when he was either with Davis or the Thelonious Monk Quartet, he functioned as both leader and sideman for this label. These recordings documnet the first part of his relatively short but highly influential time in the spotlight. Lush Life, a combination of standards and blues, treated in the unique Coltrane manner- sound wedded to material in a completely personal way - contains three tracks without a piano. Arguably one of the most influential titles from Coltrane and one of the greatest Blue Note releases ever. In 1957, right at the very start of his Prestige recording period, Trane did this one-off set in New Jersey with Rudy Van Gelder. The results are historic. Joining Coltrane's tenor are Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Kenny Drew at the piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums. Track Listings 1. Blue Train 2.
