Description
Amazingly hard to find original copy of John Denver Sings LP. I can find no record of prior sales on ebay or popsike. Recorded - pre stardom - near the end of his time with the Chad Mitchell Trio, this LP was made, by John, as a Christmas present for friends and relatives. The songs recorded were perfected after, often, being the opening act for the Mitchell Trio with his own compositions. When people began to ask why his songs had never been committed to tape, Denver went into Goldstar Studio LA and Bell in NYC and laid down this album. Mostly made up of cover versions: Beatles, Phil Ochs and Everly Brothers, Ledbetter etc... The voice is there, throughout, as is a beautiful folky finger-picked rendition of the JD original "Babe, I Hate to Go" - which Peter Paul & Mary picked up on from hearing this LP, which John had given them. They renamed it "Leaving On A Jetplane" and the rest is history... Only 250 copies of this were ever pressed.
COVER: VG/+ Considering its home made quality black and white front cover looks good. Some ringwear and chips on the cardboard cover. Some splits to top and bottom corners... Corners are slightly worn with a little wear. Bottom seam at center are cracked, but not fully split. Spine is good.
VINYL: VG Plays VERY well! Light crackle at run ins and linking grooves... a small bit of background sound occasionally during tracks, though free of any high end distortion. BIG SOUND! High and low frequencies come through clearly! One large mark runs with the groove on track 1 side 1 sounds on 4 rotations. Several marks visible on track 3 side 2 but don't make noise. A bit of groove wear on last track side 1 - overpowered by loud kazoo solo!
