Before there was (Taylor’s Version), there was (John’s Version). The Last Recordings are the last known studio recordings from John Denver, recorded in Nashville in 1996 shortly before the singer’s death. They're a collection of Denver’s greatest hits re-imagined as he wanted them and were intended by Denver to take the place of masters recorded under his decades-long run with a major label. A study in how many unwanted marks record labels leave on otherwise beautiful art, this album is Denver at his most authentic. "The newfound authenticity of a track like, "Sunshine on my Shoulders" with playful guitar licks and bongos, prove just how limited the creativity of an artist can be in the hands of a money-focused label.
