Brief Artist & Album Info: "LIVE PEACE IN TORONTO 1969" is a live album by the Plastic Ono Band, released December 1969 on Apple. Recorded at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival festival, it was the first live album released by any member of the Beatles separately or together. John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono received a phone call from the festival's promoters John Brower and Kenny Walker, and then assembled a band in a very short space of time to play at the festival, which was due to start the following day. The band included Eric Clapton, Klaus Voormann, and drummer Alan White. The group had brief rehearsals before appearing on the stage to perform several songs; one of which, "Cold Turkey", was first performed live at said festival. Eventually returning home, Lennon mixed the album in a day.
The album peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200 and has been certified a gold album by the RIAA, and failed to chart in the UK. The original LP came with a thirteen-month 1970 calendar. A video of several performances, not just the Plastic Ono Band's set, was released on video. Since its first release, the album has been reissued a number of times.
On the morning of the scheduled flight, the day before the concert, on 12 September, Lennon, Ono, and Clapton were not at the airport. At this point, Clapton had not been aware of the concert, nor of Lennon contacting him. Brower had managed to get through to Clapton and told him to contact Lennon and Ono, who were still in bed. Clapton said he got "a phone call on the day we were to leave and he said that someone had asked him to do that concert and it was that night! So I had to make the airport in an hour." The group had two rehearsals: one was during the transatlantic flight from London to Toronto, and the other shortly before appearing on stage at the actual festival. Lennon said the group "didn't know what to play", as they had not previously performed together. Also on the flight, Lennon gained the confidence, that when he got back to England, to leave the Beatles. Lennon told this to Clapton, and shortly afterwards, to the Beatles' then-manager, Allen Klein. The group played eight songs to a crowd of 25,000 people. Before the start of the Plastic Ono Band's performance, they were introduced by Kim Fowley, and Lennon said to the crowd that the group were going to play only songs that they actually knew. They performed the Beatles's "Yer Blues", because Clapton had performed it with Lennon for the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, and his two solo songs, "Give Peace a Chance" and "Cold Turkey", the latter of which had its premiere at the festival. "Cold Turkey", presented as "the newest song that John wrote" by Ono, had Lennon reading the lyrics off a clip-board. Ono selected a song that was to be B-side of "Cold Turkey," "Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking for Her Hand in the Snow)", which also had its premiere at the festival. Shortly before the band went into "Don't Worry Kyoko", Lennon announced that Ono was "gonna do her thing all over you". The band closed with an electric version of the Wedding Album track[ "John John (Let's Hope for Peace)", an extended experimental number consisting of her screaming the title repeatedly to the feedback of the electric guitars. The number, and the Plastic Ono Band's participation in the concert, ended with the band's departure from stage leaving their guitars and bass to resonate until Mal Evans turned off the amplifiers. With their stage remarks, Lennon and Ono linked their appearance there to their ongoing campaign for peace.CONDITION

The Apple Labels are Both in SUPERB condition with NO spindle wear or spider marks to be seen anywhere I would easily grade these as Ex+!!!!
VINYL:
Plays throughout absolutely brilliant with no Pops, Clicks or Jumps. The record still contains that glossy sheen though there are several very minimal surface to be seen, these in NO way interfere with the superb sound quality. This Album plays up to and beyond its high visual grading with hardly anything of note to fault. It offers strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. A typical polished production from John Lennon. Minimal surface sound and no tracking issues. This play-grade proved a real pleasure when playing this fast disappearing Apple album, this being the first example I have had for some time, and possibly the best all-round one for me yet. It will prove quite difficult to find a significantly better copy and merits a very strong recommendation. I would grade both sides as Excellent+!!!!

We always took great care with our album covers," says Yoko Ono. "We wanted them to be statements in themselves." For the cover of Live Peace, Ono and John Lennon chose a painting by Yves Klein. ("John and I were being very artsy at that point in our lives," Ono says.) Called simply Blue, the work depicts a sky of pure, sparkling azure; the Lennons introduced into that image a single cloud. "By us putting a cloud there," says Ono, "it suddenly became the real sky -- and the real world -- as opposed to perfection."
The Cover is a single fully laminated format. Printed by Garrod & Lofthouse.
Cover Lamination: What a fantastic front picture. The laminate retains a fine shine and clarity without any dulling. However there are some Very slight laminate creases (Not Splits) to both the front and rear of the cover.The Spine is in brilliant order, with all writing readable. The opening edges are slightly frayed. The ONLY real thing of note is that there is a Small crease to the bottom opening edge (Please see my pictures).This cover is incredibly difficult to find in Ex+ condition simply because of the design and age. However I would be happy enough to grade it as VERY GOOD+/VERY GOOD ++!!!!
COVER SUMMARY: Not seen often, this one is in lovely condition with only gentle clues of age, any blemishes mostly light – a few laminate creases are incredibly hard to avoid at the barest minimum. This classic cover should (as described) please many collectors.
INNER SLEEVE: This is the Correct inner sleeve to this album. It has the IMPORTANT NOTICE COPYRIGHT EXISTS IN ALL APPLE RECORDING ETC. Statement across the bottom. The Patent No: 1.125,555, and Made In Great Britain. graded as EX+!!!!
Album Played For Grading: I play/grade ALL records I offer before submitting, I also play them in their entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness. I play from the beginning to end. I use a Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge and Linn Lingo, with my Linn system and Forest Totem Speakers. This system is guaranteed to pick up any distortion or interference within the sound.
Grading: In my opinion I REFUSE to believe there is ANY record that can be truly graded as Mint, the BEST that could be offered is Mint- (minus)!!!! Especially so from the 50's, 60's, 70's or even up to the present date!!!! Even copies bought new today would have some form of imperfection on the Record or Cover!!!! Under that assumption I will NEVER use the word Mint in any of my descriptions and Mint- is the HIGHEST grade I would ever offer. So I will only from Excellent, Good or Poor with a -(minus), +(plus) or ++(plus,plus)!!!!
