Description
Here is a desirable copy of this famous John Lennon artifact, easily graded as being in excellent condition.
Other features:
- Run-out area is stamped "Bell Sound", the matrix #s are A8018 A and A8018 B, and it is signed by "Joe". - "Sings The Great Rock & Roll Hits" is printed on the spine. - The sleeve is printed on white poster board. - The cover photo shows shoulders and flesh. - The word "Stereo" on the cover is in distinct typeface.
Printing is clear and crisp (for a low-budget production) throughout with the exception of the artist names and song titles in the mini-covers on the back. The vinyl is average weight for a 70s-era disc and the label size is correct. There is no discernible etching under the label - at least to my eye. The record was minimally played.
My honest recollection is that I acquired this copy from the offices of Roulette Records (Morris Levy) around the time of its release. He was not above creating "unofficial" copies of his own product - just ask Tommy James! I have not played the record in the past 40 years and am relying on a visual inspection which reveals some very faint and occasional scuffing and/or dimpling which would not seem to interfere with playback. The record is very clean, has been in my personal collection since new, and was always been meticulously handled and extremely well cared-for.
