Description

JOHN LENNON & YOKO ONO - 'TWO VIRGINS'

Just 5,000 copies of this album which was released on November 28th 1968. Due to the nature of the cover EMI agreed only to press the discs but refused to handle distribution or print the covers. The distribution was subsequently taken up by Track Records and a small independent printing firm 'Technink' was contracted to print the infamous covers.

The 'music' itself was the result of an all-night session of musical experimentation in Lennon's home studio at Kenwood with Yoko Ono and features 'avant-garde' pieces featuring tape loops from John's Mellotron, piano, organ, drums played by John together with sound effects and ad-lib comments and noises with Yoko.

This 1st stereo pressing is on the dark green Apple label with the Track logo & catalogue number: 613012

Matrices: SAPCOR 2 A-1 & SAPCOR 2 B-1

Stamper codes: 1/A & 1/M

Vinyl weight: 146g

Housed in its infamous nude cover printed by 'Technink Limited' & complete with matt-black inner-sleeve.

N.B. Unlike copies sold in the U.S., U.K. pressings were not retailed in brown paper bags.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: NEAR MINT

Clean & richly coloured with just two or three spindle trails around each unworn centre hole.

Visual/Audio: VERY GOOD +

Clean, deep-gloss playing surfaces with none of the cloudy patches which are common to many of these discs. There are a couple of light surface marks on each side but nothing we would call a scratch. Closer inspection beneath halogen light also reveals some harmless paper hairlines from the unforgiving black inner & a sparking rainbow shine. All tracks play as intended with minimal vinyl background in quieter passages but no clicks, pops, jumps or any other such distractions.

Cover: EXCELLENT

A respectable example of this naughty cover which retains a clean & glossy front panel laminate where the only traces of wear are two small 'thumbnail' wrinkles towards the opening edge and a faint disc impression from storage. All corners and both opening edges are sharp and unworn. The rear panel is as clean as the front but has a small area of laminate lift towards the upper right corner which has split but has not detatched. Both seams and the unworded spine are smooth & fully intact.

Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT

Clean & flat with some soft storage bends, but no writing, tears or seam splits.
