Description
Background
Over the next 12-18 months I'll be selling off a massive collection of records (5000+) from a shop that closed it's doors in the early 1980s. The collection covers a period from the late 1960's through to the time of the shop's closure and includes large quantities of 60's/70's rock, progressive and modern classical music. Most of the items are unplayed (or at most have sustained a single play) unless otherwise noted. You don't get many opportunities to purchase unplayed 70's stock any more! This short paragraph of background information is included whenever an item has been sourced from this collection.
UNSOLD SHOP STOCK U.K. 2Nd L.P. Pressing on Island's Pink Rim Label of John and Beverley Martin's 'Stormbringer!' L.P. (Catalogue Reference: Island Records ILPS 9113). This features a relatively thin (as in the vinyl) pink-rim pressing inside a thin and flimsy card sleeve. I'd date it around 1971/72. I'd think it is entirely possible that this copy has never been played. Under an intense light I even struggle to discern any hairline scratches and there is no evidence of spindle markings. I confidently grade the condition of the vinyl as NEAR MINT. Being so thin and flimsy the sleeve is highly susceptible to damage. This copy is very respectable and is in EXCELLENT condition. There has been a little loss of print along the exposed base of the sleeve and there are light creases to the top left-hand and bottom right-hand corners. Sticker removal has caused some damage (loss of print) to the top right-hand corner (I believe this is visible in the image). There is a little loss of print to the bottom of the front of the sleeve as a result of ring-wear. The rear of the sleeve is pretty immaculate in comparison (more condition details below).
Condition
L.P. Cover
The sleeve is graded as being in EXCELLENT condition. It is a great example but a couple of minor flaws prevent me grading any higher. There is loss of print to the top right-hand corner as a result of sticker removal. Black print has also been lost along the exposed base of the spine and ring-wear to the front, base of the sleeve has also resulted in some print loss. Both bottom corners have sustained knocks and there is light creasing to the top left-hand and bottom right-hand corners. However, let me be quite clear and say that inappearance you'd think this might have been pressed yesterday particularly when viewing the rear of the sleeve. Having been stored in a polythene sleeve virtually all it's life the print of the cover has a 'freshness' to it which belies how little this has been handled.
Vinyl
This item has been graded under an intense light and is in NEAR MINT condition. I don't take my grading lightly and it is rare I award such a grade to an L.P. But I simply struggle to discern anything. The lack of hairline scratches suggests this hasn't been removed from the paper sleeve until I came along. Simply stunning!
Concluding Remarks
This item wasn't sold and has sat in storage for 40+ years! Please check my other auctions for further contemporary lps from the same source in similarly immaculate condition. Save me as a favourite seller as there is plenty more where this came from!
General Terms etc.
I endeavour to be accurate with all my grading and all items are graded under an intense light. I have been a collector for in excess of 15 years and would describe my grading as conservative (I think my feedback speaks for itself in this respect(!)). If you're not entirely happy with your purchase then contact me.
