Original 1994 U.S. first pressing — Still Sealed
American Recordings, Catalog Number: 9 45520-1 american [sic]
produced by Rick Rubin
This is the original 1994 U.S. first pressing. There have been several reissues of unknown origin from Europe over the years, and many of them have been passed off as “original” when they were not. Making things worse, most Sellers don’t distinguish an original from any of the later issues.
Several characteristics distinguish an original first pressing, the two that are easiest to check quickly on a sealed LP are the back side shrink wrap and the UPC barcode, also on the back. The shrink-wrap on original U.S. pressings has an overlap running vertically up the back cover, slightly to the right of center. I have not seen this characteristic on any other pressings. The barcode is also unique, in that it is small and somewhat narrow compared to other releases. If the album was open we could also examine the lyric insert which has unique features on the first pressing, and the information in the deadwax run-out grooves is always definitive.
The album offered here is an ORIGINAL U.S. first pressing. It is THIS record, the 1994 original U.S. pressing, that Stereophile Magazine included in their “Records to Die For” list for 1995:
“I heard a knock at the door. I opened it, and in front of me stood a tall, heavily weathered man with a black Martin strapped across his back. He said he needed a place to rest, and had been attracted to my apartment by a Hank Williams song wafting through my open bedroom window. I invited him in, and watched and listened as the man in black tuned his guitar and began to sing.
The rhythmic thuck-thuck of the stylus in the lead-out grooves of the first side of American Recordings rudely awakened me. The recording's honesty had lulled me into that rare state of listening where the line between illusion and reality no longer exists. This album is an intimate recital of American popular music performed by one of its greatest, most persistent, and loyal advocates.” -- review by Guy Lemcoe, Google search “1995 Records to Die For page 9”.
It was this review that led me to search out this album and listen to it for the first time, around 1998. It had the same effect on me as it did on the reviewer, and I acquired several copies over the years, whenever I found one. This is a GREAT record album, every song from start to finish. The kind of album you want to listen to all the way through.

Double-Box Packaging:
For sealed albums: The album will be placed inside a new clear poly outer protective album cover, then sandwiched between two album-sized cardboard stiffeners which are then carefully taped at the four compass points, lightly squeezing the outer edge of the album between the cardboard stiffeners to prevent the LP from sliding up and down or side to side, to help prevent seam splits to the cover during transit. This has been a very effective method I have used for many years to practically eliminate seam splits on sealed LPs.
For open albums: The original inner sleeves are included whenever available, but if the original inner sleeve was paper, the records have been stored in modern poly inner sleeves to protect both the LP and the original inner sleeve from damage. Albums with gatefold covers will have the LP will be secured outside the cover, between the gatefold, in order to eliminate the possibility of seam splits and still protect the LP.
With non-gatefold covers, it is safer for the LP to be stored inside the cover, with the cover and LP placed inside a new clear poly outer protective album cover, then sandwiched between two album-sized cardboard stiffeners which are then carefully taped at the four compass points, to prevent the LP from sliding up and down or side to side during transit, to prevent any seam splits to the cover on open records. If you prefer that I package your LP outside the cover, just let me know and I will make it secure.
Both sealed and open albums: The album is packaged in a regular record LP mailer box with cardboard stiffeners and sealed. The record mailer box is then placed inside a larger heavy cardboard outer shipping box and surrounded by foam peanuts on ALL sides. Your album will be packaged securely and insured. (see photos below)
Combined shipping available for multiple purchases to save on shipping costs.
Weight Limit of 4 Lbs. for International First Class Mail: Please note that First Class International shipping has a 4 Lb. weight limit. If your combined purchase is over the four pound weight limit we will have to either use two separate packages or choose Priority Mail International. In either event, the choice will be yours, I will calculate your shipping costs and send you a new Invoice if necessary.

Payment, Shipping and Return Details:
Payment: per eBay’s new policy, please make payment via PayPal within 2 days.
Shipping and Handling Time: Packages normally ship the day after payment (excluding weekends and holidays) with email notification and Tracking number.
No Returns on sealed LPs that have been opened by the Buyer: For obvious value reasons, if you open a sealed album it can no longer be returned.
International Buyers – Shipping Options:
International shipping is by First Class International, Priority Mail International or Express Mail International (buyer’s choice), shipping cost is automatically calculated by eBay shipping calculator. I do NOT use the new eBay GSP (Global Shipping Program).
International Buyers – Customs Fees:
Package must be marked “merchandise” (not gift) and the sale price will be declared on the Customs Form. I have found that putting "Fragile! - Used vinyl Record LP" in the description to be very helpful, both in safer handling and in making the package uninteresting. Not many people in Customs or the Postal Service care about used record LPs, but they certainly understand that they are fragile. Please be aware that your country may charge you Import Duties, Taxes or other Fees at the time of Delivery which are NOT included in the Item price or shipping. Any such Import charges are the Buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s Customs Office to determine any additional Fees before bidding.
Packaging Photos:
The photos below show the packaging materials used for your album:1) First a layer of foam peanuts in the large outer shipping box, the brand new box is 200Lb test heavy cardboard.
2) Next the album, sealed inside a standard Record Mailer box, with cardboard stiffeners (the way most sellers ship albums) is placed on the layer of foam peanuts.
3) Every side of the Record Mailer box has approximately 1” of foam peanuts for padding protection.
4) Final layer of foam peanuts, filled to the top.
5) Large outer box sealed.
6) Comparison photo #1 showing a Bob Dylan album cover (NOT INCLUDED!) on top of standard white Record Mailer box, on top of large outer shipping box.
7) Comparison photo #2 again showing a Bob Dylan album cover (not included!) on top of a white standard Record Mailer box, which is sitting on top of the large outer shipping box, to demonstrate how the standard Record Mailer box is barely larger than your valuable LP, providing little protection.

8) Comparison photo #3 showing side view (thickness) of standard Record Mailer box compared to the outer shipping box that I use to protect your record album.
