Description
Johnny Cash – Original 1955 Sun LP, Collector's Dream!
Sun, LP-1220, mono, 1955
Disc: G; test played, no skips, some surface noise – plays better than it looks
Cover: front and back completely separated; new inner sleeve and protective plastic outer sleeve.
The front cover is titled "Johnny Cash with His Hot and Blue Guitar," but the back cover and record labels are titled just "Johnny Cash." The back cover notes call it "Johnny Cash Album." Cash was 23 when he recorded these tracks at Sam Phillips' Sun Studios in Memphis. The "hot & blue guitar" is not played by Cash, but by Luther Perkins, whose distinctive style was a large part of Cash's characteristic sound. Includes Johnny's early hits, I Walk the Line, Remember Me, and Cry, Cry, Cry. His Rock Island Line is almost an exact cover of the version popularized by the great bluesman, Leadbelly (Huddie Ledbetter). Johnny covers Hank Williams' I Heard That Lonesome Whistle, and the album has Cash's first recording of Folsom Prison Blues. This very rare and highly sought-after LP is a collector's dream come true.
