Johnny “Hammond” Smith Sth African LP Opus de Funk EX Prestige PR7420 Soul Jazz
South African LP released in the late 1960’s on Prestige Records. Cat: PR 7420. Comes in gloss sleeve with back flaps.
While organist Johnny "Hammond" Smith never attained the status of Jimmy Smith, he nonetheless fronted first-rate bands and accumulated a fine discography. Features vibraphonist Freddie McCoy, guitarist Eddie McFadden, bassist Wendell Marshall, and drummer Leo Stevens. The really unusual element here is the presence of McCoy, because one doesn't usually associate vibes with jazz organ combos. The vibes work, however, and give the resonance of Smith's organ a lighter counterpoint that brightens up the overall sound.

There are a few light spindle marks on labels. Record has some light scuff marks that cause some light crackles and is in Excellent condition. Gloss cover with back flaps is in Excellent condition.
Wrapping method: All records are sent in stiff cardboard mailers then wrapped in brown paper and sealed around edges with brown packaging tape. Records are taken out of sleeve to avoid seam splits and ring wear.
