Sims/Woods/Eardley LP DOWN EAST
Prestige LP 7033, yellow & black label w/"W. 50th St" address. Mastered by Rudy Van Gelder: "RVG" etched by hand in deadwax. Glossy b&w photo cover. 1956. Label reads: Jon Eardley Seven. Jacket spine reads: Sims/Woods/Eardley.
The visually graded disc is vg++.
The jacket is vg/vg+ w/warpage, light ringwear, cornerwear, splitting on lower seam. Overall still intact.
Jon Eardley was born in Altoona, PA. His father was in the Paul Whiteman orchestra. During his career he played with Gerry Mulligan, Hal McIntyre, Chet Baker and Al Haig. He moved to Belgium in 1963, and then to Cologne, Germany in 1969. Before his death in 1991 he played in the WDR big band in Cologne. He is not particularly well known in his native country but became a highly respected musician in Europe. This album is another little-known gem from the peak Prestige era with great trumpet playing and interesting compositions. An example of East Coast "warm jazz".
