A considerable number of new vinyl copies sold in the past few years, after being stored for years in a warehouse, have been damaged due to a chemical reaction between the vinyl record and the PVC sleeves they are packaged in. Buyers across the internet are complaining about this, for example.
"Titled "Worst Vinyl Issue Yet" - But when mine arrived they used thick PVC sleeves for the records. All have done what vinyl does when in contact with other vinyl. FUSED. With that telltale vinegar smell when plastics are gassing. All 3 albums have a coating from their sleeves now and the surface noise is as loud as the music. Pure Genius at the packing plant".
