Description
Judee Sill - Judee Sill
I am pleased to offer for sale this exceptional copy Judee Sill's eponymously titled debut album.
Background:
Originating from LA, Judee Sill's first foray into the music industry was as a writer for The Turtle's pblishing company, Blimp Music. It was during this time that the majority of the material that features on this album was written. Sill's big break came after a chance encounter with David Crosby and Graham Nash after which they invited her to support them on their upcoming tour of the States.
Although Sill did not always enjoy supporting Crosby and Nash, whose fan base were not always receptive to a female folk singer, it was through the publicity created by this tour that she was signed to David Geffen's newly created label, Asylum Records (in fact, Sill was the first artist to sign for the label!).
Featuring production from Henry Lewy and Graham Nash and backing instrumentation from Jeff Beck and Jim Pons, the album itself merges pop, folk, and classical influences to create a unique soundscape that has an innocent beauty to it. Although not a huge commercial success at the time, the album was well received both by music critics and the folk scene at large - particularly in the UK.
This particular copy is a superb example of a true US first pressing that would make a fantastic condition to any record collection.

Vinyl: EXCELLENT +
Labels: MINT -
The labels are bright, clean and without writing. No spindle wear is visible.
Visual: EXCELLENT
The record retains superb deep-gloss playing surfaces. In bright daylight one or two very light surface marks are visible to either side. None can be felt. Under the glare of a halogen desk lamp wispy paper hairline marks can be seen alongside an iridescent rainbow sheen. Truly fantastic.
Sound Quality: EXCELLENT +
Please use the eBay internet site to enjoy the audio clips. The eBay app does not facilitate playback.
Side 1:
Side 2:
As can be heard in the audio clips, the vinyl sounds stunning. Other than the expected sound of needle travel, both lead-ins are remarkably quiet. Minimal static can be heard in between tracks. There is great channel separation, superb clarity and exceptional dynamism. It would be very difficult to find a better example of this record.
Sleeve: EXCELLENT -
The original sleeve looks superb! All four sides are bright and clean without any hint of discolouration. The cover art is vibrant. The spine and all 6 edges show only minimal storage wear. The corners are slightly softened bu still strong. A great example.
Inner Sleeves: EXCELLENT
The original inner sleeve is in great condition.
Additional Details:
Before the audio test was performed the vinyl was cleaned first by an Okki Nokki vacuum cleaner (using L'art du Son cleaning solution) and then an Audio Desk ultrasonic cleaner.
After cleaning, the vinyl is housed inside a brand new mobile fidelity anti-static inner sleeve.
The vinyl will be packaged outside of the sleeve, both of which are stored inside an archival quality polypropylene outer sleeve.
The record will be sent via an insured courier in a padded vinyl mailer.
