Description
This auction is for an original autograph of June Carter hand-signed on a 1949 song book. She was 20 (possibly 19) years old at the time -- QUITE A RARITY as this was before she met and married Johnny Cash and certainly long before she gained wider popularity. The autograph has a folksy handwritten notation (also in the hand of June Carter) that reads "Luck and Stuff." The autograph is original by June Carter -- it is not secretarial, not stamped, not printed, not auto-pen. The autograph and sign-off are done in thick pencil. VERY YOUNG, EARLY AUTOGRAPH !!! EXTREMELY RARE COLLECTIBLE as the vast majority of her autographs are signed by her later married name "June Carter Cash". There are 25 photos inside the songbook. This item is so old that it has 4 photos of their young then-unknown backup guitar player Chet Atkins (identified as Chester Atkins). Atkins later moved with the carter Sisters to Nashville where his own career finally took off -- this is a must-have scarce scarce item for someone who collects early Chet Atkins memorabilia. This is the real-life person that was portrayed by Reese Witherspoon in the movie I Walk the Line. See close-up scans below The autograph was handwritten by June Carter on the lower part of a 1949 publicity songbook booklet for The Carter Family. EVEN WITHOUT THE AUTOGRAPH, this folio is a great collectible because it has very early promotional material for June Carter, Mother Maybelle, Helen and Anita. The booklet measures about 9x12 and has 50 pages. There are biographical profiles of the sisters as well as old photos from that era plus lyrics and tablature for 14 songs. The photos show a very young June Carter with her mom and sisters -- see scans below. There are some normal wear from age and handling. This includes some light scuffs or occasional soiling & discoloration on the front cover. The average person would say it is in good or better condition. No tears, no creases, no missing pages, no writing other than June Carter's own handwritten autograph and her sign-off (Luck & Stuff). See scans of cover (below) -- rare find in ANY condition. Pages are intact, covers (front and back) are firm (not loose). 5 Photos of a Young Chet Atkins To prevent copies, our scans are slightly darkened and slightly blurred. The actual image quality is better than our scan. Great addition to your autograph collection, vinyl record home decor, office, antiques store, auction house or website. This is quite a rare relic from the early days of vintage country music.
