This auction is for the incredibly hard to find Keith Christmas album "Pigmy". Keith Christmas played on the Beckenham arts festival organised by a pre-fame David Bowie and also played on Space Oddity. His fabulous work on his first two albums was undervalued at the time, but these albums have come to be major progressive folk collectibles.

The follow-up to the fantastic first album.This hardly sold at all and is now extremely scarce!!!

Keith Christmas recorded his first album 'Stimulus' back in 1969 when he also played the acoustic guitar on David Bowie's first album 'Space Oddity' and appeared at the first Glastonbury Festival.

Throughout the seventies he recorded four more albums 'Fable of the Wings', 'Pigmy', Brighter Day' and 'Stories From the Human Zoo' while touring with and supporting acts like The Who, King Crimson, Ten Years After, Frank Zappa and Roxy Music.

Originally released in 1971, the year after Keith Christmas had performed at the first Glastonbury festival, Pigmy is the singer-songwriter’s third album – and it’s a work of two distinct pure quality halves. The first five tracks are beautifully constructed acoustic songs that are at once intimate and beguiling, as with the opening Travelling Down and Evensong, where the added textures of Robert Kirby’s string arrangements perfectly complement Christmas’ gently reflective songs. Kirby’s strings are a subtle presence, giving the singer, his lyrics and delicate guitar work the space to remain central.

The final three longer tracks sees Christmas backed by a full band – including Rod Argent and Fuzzy Samuels in its ranks – which allow him to stretch out more with an electric guitar on a very different type of song. The nine-minute Song For A Survivor builds and develops, with free from sax and organ; the closing Forest And The Shore becomes gloriously expansive and the musical landscape, so befitting of the title, opens up with more Kirby arrangements for full choral backing.

Throughout all this diversity, the quality of Christmas’ material and performances remain a constant guiding light.

Vinyl: NM. A splendid vinyl and I doubt whether it has been played at all. There are NO marks and NO hairlines. Not even any paper traces. I have listened to the entire LP on my Linn Sondek/Rotel/B&W set up and totally enjoyed it. The stereo seperation is beautiful and the depth of this recording is truly amazing!! There are NO  clicks, jumps or ticks. I have had this once before and that one was great as well, but this one beats it by some considerable distance. This will be a fantastic upgrade for the serious collector.  The winner will be delighted.

Gatefold sleeve: EX++. A lovely sleeve which has been very well cared for. Fully intact without any creases or marks. There is barely any storage wear on the top and bottom edge. The spine is fully legible and the colours of the sleeve are rich. On tiny "micro bump" to the top left. An incredible find and in my opinion impossible to upgrade from. There is NO writing and NO smudging.
