Description
This is an original, 47 West 63rd copy of the 1961 Kenny Dorham Lp "Whistle Stop", Blue Note BLP 4063. RVG and the ear are in the trail off. The record is in near mint minus condition, with a few very minor inaudable scuffs and a name very neatly written in small block letters on the side one label. The cover is in VG+ to VG++ condition, with about 3 and 4cm of damage to the top and botton seams and the same name written in small block letters on the back. Review by Scott Yanow for allmusic.com. Kenny Dorham was always underrated throughout his career, not only as a trumpeter but as a composer. This Lp features seven of his compositions, none of which have been picked up by any of the "Young Lions" of the 1990s despite their high quality and the many fresh melodies. Dorham teams up with tenor-saxophonist Hank Mobley (who he had recorded with previously with Art Blakey and Max Roach), pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones for a set of lively, fresh and consistently swinging music. This is a generally overlooked near-classic set.
