Kimberly Briggs is soul songstress Kim Tolliver, a native of Cleveland. Her husband at the time was Freddie Briggs, who wore the hats of songwriter, producer, and singer. (His biggest production, a groundbreaking LP by Margie Joseph for Volt Records, featured an astounding rendition of "Stop in the Name of Love," made famous by the Supremes.) Kimberly Briggs' Passing Clouds is an improvement over Come and Get Me, I'm Ready, her Chess debut. A soulful rendition of "My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)" starts the festivities off right. "Girl Talk with Parents" segues into "The Letter," popularized by the Box Tops and done here by Briggs in Millie Jackson style. However, a remake of John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane" was totally unnecessary. Briggs wrote several of the selections, including "Give a Man an Inch," and "He's Still on My Mind." Like her first LP, nothing saw life as a 45-rpm single, and the album is nearly impossible to find, so obscure that even Briggs' grandchildren were unaware of its existence. Two 12" recordings by Kim are also said to exist, as well as an unauthorized CD of her Rojac, Pathfinder, Gar, Sureshot, and Castro singles. Sadly, the power vocalist later contracted Alzheimer's Disease, and Freddie Briggs, who went on to write "Pick Up the Pieces" for Johnny Taylor and "Strung Out Over You" for the Dells, suffered a debilitating stroke. Two 12" recordings by Kim are said to exist, as well as, an unauthorized CD of her Rojac, Pathfinder, Gar, Sureshot, and Castro singles.

WE'VE TEST PLAYED THIS LP BY SAMPLING EACH TRACK 2-3 TIMES ON A VPI TURNTABLE WITH A GRADO REFERENCE ONE WOOD CARTRIDGE WITHOUT NOTICE OF THE ABOVE ITEMS AND SOUNDING QUITE FINE HERE.
