KING CRIMSON
“IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING”
VINYL LP
1969 1st UK PRESSING
TEXTURED ISLAND PINK ‘i’ Label
Cat No ILPS-9111
(VERY RARE A2 & B2 MATRIX NUMBERS)
The earliest A1/B1 pressings are almost impossible to find as that particular pressing was recalled by Bob Fripp prior to its release because he allegedly did not like the mix.
The next rarest pressing is this one with the A2/B2 matrix numbers and the textured label - which is technically the first official pressing of this album. Not many of these sold because the band was new (and largely unknown at the time) so only a small limited number were pressed under contract to Polydor (who produced the tell-tale textured labels) in case the record did not sell. It took some months before the LP became popular and new pressings were made.
Most copies of this LP therefore have the A2/B3 or A2/B4 matrix numbers and are pressed on non-textured Island labels i.e. they are technically 2nd and 3rd pressings.
Vinyl: Very good+. Light feathering/marks but no deep scratches. Has been played a fair amount but well looked after. Would benefit from a clean.
Gatefold Cover: Very good+ for its age - has a name on the front.
Labels: Excellent.
Matrix numbers: Very rare early pressing - Side 1 = ILPS . 9111 A/2 & Side 2 = ILPS 9111 B/2
Tracks:
· 21st Century Schizoid Man
· I Talk to the Wind
· Epitaph
· Moonchild
· The Court of the Crimson King
