Description
I have decided to reduce a number of my vinyl LP's collected over the last 45 years.
I still buy now but have a lot of number of duplicates an/or items I no longer need to keep.
Check my other items currently for sale.
This is a wrench but I do have a better copy which is my keeper.
All music fans and collectors know this is an iconic release. The birth of Prog. and one of the most distinctive covers in history.
I have loved King Crimson since the 70's and owned this LP in it's many forms. My original was a Polydor copy but soon after I started picking up earlier Island pressings to make comparisons of sound and quality.
This was my "best " copy for some time.
It is very important to say this is the A2/B2 very first on sale edition of this record. The vast majority were A2/B3 or B/4.
Of particular note I can categorically state that this copy has a louder cut than my A2/B3 copy and is superior in this way, particularly on side 2 "Moonchild" where the lower volume level required cuts down on background noise and makes it a better listen.
It's not a rare record, it reached No.4 in the LP charts but it is very difficult to find pressed well. I have not had a good A2 B4 pressing, the sound quality is simply not as good in my opinion.
This copy is in very nice shape.
The EJ Day cover shows minor signs of wear to edges and spine. But still readable if a bit flattened.
There is a small scratch to rear down in the bottom corner, check pictures.
There is no writing of any kind.
Overall Grade VG to VG+
Lovely Inner sleeve survives in near Ex condition, there are no splits or discolouration.
Most important the vinyl has a lovely shine and no visible scratches of scuffs.
I have played this album right through and it is loud and clear throughout. No distortion or loud pops or clicks. Its only a little behind my other copy for overall sound quality as there is just the very ocassional bit of background crackle but it is minor and never gets in the way of the music. Even during Moonchild it never interferes with the enjoyment.
Under a bright light this LP shows only the lightest of sleeve extraction and Grades EX.
(The record shows some signs of being played but there is very little lessening in sound quality)
The matrices are
ILPS 9111 A *2 1 4 (* represents upturned triangle)
ILPS 9111 B//2 1 5
This LP has the deep pink textured and grooved labels which display some spindle marks but no damage or writing and are in Ex condition.
