Description
The successor to In the Court of the Crimson King, In the Wake of Poseidon is often cited as a pale imitation of its predecessor … but I love it. To me, when it came out, it was more of the same, and, I couldn't get enough of that. Sure, it does attempt the impossible - Pictures of a City struggles to reproduce the inimitable 21st Century Schizoid Man but there, sitting snugly in the place I Talk To The Wind occupied on side one of the debut disc, Cadence and Cascade is another perfectly formed and understated gem, followed by the epic In The Wake of Poseidon itself, a worthy enough follow-up to Epitaph … yes, I was happy enough with that for a while …
This particular copy of In The Wake of Poseidon is another original UK pink Island vinyl LP first pressing (ILPS-9127) of 1970. The heavily textured gatefold cover is exceptionally fine and free of the usual ringwear and sticker tears and warrants a comfortable EX (UK Record Collector grading) with no creasing, writing or half-moons, and just some slight edge and spine wear which does little to detract from an otherwise fine, sturdy, lovely-to-handle original gatefold.
The first pressing vinyl is also in a strong EX condition with no marks visible, lovely clean labels and precious little spindle activity. This original vinyl lies perfectly flat on the turntable and plays as good as it looks.
As you can see from my pictures I'm starting to sell off my record collection. It's a needs-must sale (to pay for the hire of some scaffolding, would you believe!!!) but there it is … the true collectors among you will immediately see there are some goodies to come. I'm adding them as soon as I can …
