KING CRIMSON In The Court of A3 B3 Island Pink Rim UK LP EX Monster 162g press!

KING CRIMSON ~ In The Court of the Crimson King (An observation by King Crimson. Island Records ILPS 9111. 1969.

Beautiful early second pressing of this Iconic LP on the “Palm Tree” or “Pink Rim” label.  The stampers are the of the style (Orlake pressing plant?) +A3 suffix rather than A//3. This is a known and reasonably scarce variation where there are no copyrights mentioned on the label.  The sleeve is made by EJ Day complete with the “I” logo, so an early example!!

Gradings: -

Outer Sleeve: EX

The sleeve is graded as EX.  It is a very clean example with no major faults.  The spine, front and rear cover are in really nice condition.  The top and bottom edges have a moderate amount of wear along their lengths, but there is no fraying which is often found on worn copies of this LP. Overall a really nice copy that is clean and tidy inside and out.

Vinyl (Visual): EX

The Vinyl is in EX condition. There are just a few light hairline marks, only visible when the record is held up to strong light.  The vinyl weighs in at a quite incredible 162g. Very heavy and very solid pressing with the original gloss still very much intact.

Vinyl (Audio) : VG+

The record plays well and with serious pop or clicks but does have a certain amount of background noise which is present through nearly all the LP. There is no evidence of sound distortion and the sound remains sharp throughout.

Matrix:

Side 1: ILPS 9111 + A3 Porky (etched)
Side 2: ILPS 9111 + B3 Pecko (etched)

Labels : EX+

The Labels are very clean and graded at EX+. There is an incredibly faint number 53 written in blue biro on side 1. So feint in fact that I only spotted after looking at the record about 5 or 6 times. You may be able to just make this out in the photos.
Inner Sleeve: The original inner sleeve is included although it has a tear in from the centre outwards which is fairly long. The record has now been placed in a brand-new poly lined inner prior to shipping.

Overall this is a nice second press copy of this iconic album.

Postage and Packing:

All records are placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping.  Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s. These mailers are a high-grade type which reinforce the edges around the LP and as such
they are larger and weigh more than standard mailers.  My postage costs reflect the additional size and weight of the packaging that I use.
