KING CRIMSON Islands (Island ILPS 9175) RARE UK 1st Press Pink Rim +Insert VG++
RARE original very first UK pressing of King Crimson`s "Islands" on Island Records (December 1971).
Regarded as something of a transitional effort at the time of its release, "Islands" immediately predated the fabulous "Lark`s Tongues..."/"Starless"/"Red" trilogy and was the last album to feature King Crimson`s more lyrical, mellotron-saturated sound.
Nevertheless, the musically varied "Islands" has stood the test of time remarkably well, featuring both the acidic abrasiveness of "Ladies Of The Road", as well as the almost neo-romantic indulgences of "Prelude: Song Of The Gulls" or its title song.
GRADING:
VG+ COVER. Original first pressing flipback sleeve. Some repairwork along the opening edge, as well as to the top flipback on rear cover (done with a black felt marker).
Also includes original insert/lyric sleeve in VG++ to MINT- condition. Very clean and uncreased, but has beginnings of tiny seam splits (1" each) to two sides. Please see photos for details.
VG++ RECORD with some light general hairlining. A bit of superficial crackle in quiet passages, as well as a perhaps 4-5 "pops" spread evenly throughout the record. However, this remains a very passable copy - especially at this price!
The matrix stamps in the dead wax read "A 1 - U" and "B 1 - U", indicating an original very first UK pressing, issued in December 1971.
