Description
Here's a great one: The Kinks' spectacular 1966 Face to Face album. And quite a specimen it is! It's Pye NSPL 18149.
Let's talk about the cover. This is an export issue, with the early matrix numbers and with the stereo sticker still on the front and the NSPL sticker still on the back! (The cover was meant for mono releases, but Pye just put stereo stickers on the back and front and didn't even bother correcting the spine.)
The shiny flipback cover (by Garrod & Lofthouse) is in EX condition--there is barely a hint that it's been touched. There are no splits, the spine is PERFECT, and there are just a couple of small dents around the edges. The front cover has a small crease making a 1" triangle at the top right. But God, this is gorgeous--looking at this feels like going back in time. There is just the faintest hint of ring wear, and that by texture, not by discoloration. The back is, if possible, even better than the front. No writing or marks, just the tiniest hints of gray on the left side.
The record has no scuffs or marks. It plays through fantastic. A small warp leads to a little bit of surface noise between the tracks, and on the first track of each side, a second or two of low, but audible, noise. By gloss, looks, and fidelity, it's EX. But that small warp has to downgrade it just a bit.
I play-tested this on a Stanton turntable with a new Stanton 680 EL II cartridge; a better turntable with a different tone arm and cartridge might eliminate this imperfection entirely.
On to the labels...side one has some whitening/push marks at the spindle. Side two is near perfect. No writing on the labels. The album still has its original protective sleeve.
Have fun. $5.15 postage to US, negotiable to other countries.
Thank you!
