ARTIST DETAILS (Scroll Down For Supersize Pictures)
The Kinks are a British rock group that came out of the British R&B/Garage Rock scene of the early 1960s. Formed in 1963 in London, by brothers Ray and Dave Davies they first gained prominence on the heels of the well-received and highly influential single “You Really Got Me” (1964), the song was number one in the UK and made the top ten in the US. The band’s next single ‘All Day And All Night’ was another hit reaching number 2 in the UK and number 7 in the US. The Kinks continued to produce hits in the 60’s and 70’s like ‘A Well Respected Man’, ‘Sunny Afternoon’, Tired Of Waiting For You’ and ‘Lola’ The group originally consisted of lead singer/guitarist Ray Davies, his brother lead guitarist Dave Davies, drummer Mick Avory and bassist Peter Quaife. Quaife left (twice) in the late 1960s, and Avory finally left due to a long-running dispute with Dave Davies, leaving only the Davies brothers as the core of the original group.
With Ray’s splendid songwriting skills and ‘mockney’ vocals, Dave’s impressive guitar work and Avory’s tight and steady drumming, the band became one of the best and most influential groups of British rock and the “British Invasion” of America, lasting longer than any of their competitors, apart from The Rolling Stones, as they broke up in 1996. Their impressive back catalogue of songs have been covered by Van Halen, The Pretenders, The Black Keys, The Stranglers and Queens Of Stone Age to name but a few.
ALBUM DESCRIPTION
After their initial success via the breakthrough singles 'You Really Got Me', and 'All Day and All of the Night', and the release of their first album, the Kinks were rushed into putting together that 'difficult' second LP. All the tracks had been recorded between August 1964 and February 1965 at Pye Studios, London, apart from some guitar overdub on ‘Tired Of Waiting For You’ done at IBC Studios, London. The whole process was done cheaply, under pressure, after the band had returned from an Asian tour the whole process was completed in under two weeks, released on 5th March 1964. The album was released in the US on the 11 August 1965, with a repackaged cover and a rearranged track listing.
Kinda Kinks were the result, and though it's not Face to Face, or even Kink Kontroversy, it still has some really good Mod era rock; ' Look For Me Baby', 'Come On Now'- with the female chorus provided by Ray's wife, plus other tunes of interest; ' Nothin' In The World Can Stop Me Worryin' Bout That Girl'- acoustic folk jazz a la Davy Graham and Bert Jansch, 'Something Better Beginning' the chorus sounding like an 80's Elvis Costello ballad and the melodic and melancholy hit single, their first in that vein, 'Tired of Waiting For You'. There is also a seemingly tongue-in-cheek take on the Lazy Lester blues standard 'Naggin' Woman' sung by Dave Davies, and a very undercooked cover of Martha and The Vandellas 'Dancing in the Streets' that's still much more listenable than the Mick Jagger and David Bowie version.

THE AUDIO
The audio on my systems the audio is superb, top mono reproduction no distortion at all, it plays through with no skips, jumps, pops or loud clicks, apart from the very odd bit and I mean very odd bit, of static/quiet ticks it sounds absolutely superb in my opinion . (Obviously with an album of this age an odd bit of static has to be allowed for.) Apart from a couple of ticks I heard I would rate the audio easily as Near Mint, I will rate it as Excellent plus.
THE LABELS
The Pye labels look superb, with their original appearance, clean with no marks or writing with a minimal amount of spidering, hardly any in fact, see photos. The spindle holes are perfectly round very tight no signs of wear, exceptionally rare to find in a 45 year old record the album can't have been played much more than a handful of times. .
THE VINYL
On initial visual inspection the heavy vinyl looks beautiful and lays perfectly flat on the turntable with no sounding needle marks or scratches that would a detrimental effect on the audio that I can see, not a trace of groovewear. Only under a angled light can any slight storage / sleeve removal type marks be seen.
THE COVER
The original laminated front Garrod & Lofthouse flipback cover is generally in excellent condition, with no marks or writing, showing a minimal amount of storage wear. The corners and edges again are great with barely any wear, the spine is square and straight virtually no wear, the title writing is clear and perfectly legible, remarkable for a 45 year old cover. The laminated front has virtually no ringware with a small amount of laminate creasing only one is noticeable, see pictures. The rear of the cover is very clean almost pristine apart from one small scuff which is only noticable on very close inspection.
THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE VINYL AND COVER WILL BE INSERTED SEPARATELY IN POLY SLEEVES AND WRAPPED WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
