Description
Okay, in all honesty, the only copy I've ever seen of this little beauty is the one I own. Released in early 1980, this Casablanca Records promo album is, I believe, the only one ever released specifically for UK radio by Casablanca - and certainly the only one I've ever heard of featuring KISS.
I picked this up in 1987 at a Record Fair in Birmingham city centre, so it's hard to believe it was only 7 years back then and I've owned it for a quarter of a century. Frightening.
The description :
It's a 10 track promo album featuring a bunch of Casablanca Records artists (of varying quality!). The catalogue number of the album is CASA1 and was released via Pye Records. By the time KISS Unmasked came out a few months later Casablanca was being distributed via Mercury Records.
The sleeve is pretty thin, pretty much like a 12" record sleeve and is matt, not glossy, featuring the famous sandy coloured design that Casablanca Records was known for back in the day. I would grade the actual vinyl as Good to Very Good (it has a bit of a ding between the Parliament and the Cameo tracks), and the sleeve itself I don't think I can grade any higher than Good. It has some ring-wear (what a phrase...), and a tiny split at the foot of the sleeve about 2cm long. As you can see from the photo of the B-Side of the record, some mysterious liquid substance has been spilled on it sometime between 1980 and 1987 (ie, not by me!). The cover is pretty cool as it's a fairly unique take on Casablanca's artists that featured for that label. Pictured as sweets in a glass jar, the striping hails back to KISS' HOTTER THAN HELL album of 1974. Well, I think it does.
The more I write about this thing, the sadder I am to see it go to be honest. I used to collect Casablanca Records stuff, and this was always my pride and joy because I'd only ever seen one copy - mine. However, needs must, and if I'm ever going to be able to afford a telescope this type of stuff has to be sold.

As an added bonus there's a bit of blurb on all the artists contained on the sampler. It's interesting to note that the sampler states that KISS had dominated the American market and other overseas areas but with 'Britain yet to fall', but with 'IWMFLY' being the first KISS single to chart the year before (Gene's 'Radioactive' was actually the first KISS-related single to chart before that) the sampler states that 2,000 Man should 'see much action'. Well, it didn't.
Please note that this is the 7" edit version of the track. I can't speak of the other versions of the tracks as I'd have no idea, sorry. Just in case all you hardcore Captain & Tennille fans are interested, I've included the track length for all of the songs so hopefully you can work it out yourselves.
Anyway, I'm not sure what else to say about this really. It has only one KISS track on it, but it is one of the cooler things in my collection and I'll be sad to see it go.
