Description

Original UK Deram red label stereo press LP.

The first album by Keef Hartley & Co recorded in London in October 1968 and released in early 1969. Having been playing with John Mayall for several years Keef Hartley formed his own big band in 1968 and started playing Jazz clubs around the UK and eventually in 1969 the USA at the Woodstock Festival. Although, well regarded by fellow musicians and featuring well known players such as Miller Anderson & Jon Hiseman, they never had much commercial success, although in recent years they have often been often sampled and copied.

This is a later issue from circa. 1971, with the 'Registered Trademark' symbol on the label, but still with the upside down ZAL-8598/9 index numbers, the earliest 1-W./1-W. matrices, 1969 'JT' tax code and 1-BU 1-BU stampers of the original 1st presses.

The Garrod & Lofthouse laminated gatefold sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some very light edge/corner wear and some very light laminate rubbing on the front cover, the inner cover has some light rubbing and creasing along the spine. The spine is intact and fully readable, but slightly crushed, the company inner is intact & in EX condition.   The record is in visually EX condition, with only one or two faint & wispy sleeve removal hairlines and a couple of small needle marks visible on each side. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of faint spindle markings on each side.   The sound reproduction is EX, still clear & precise throughout with no loud pops or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some very brief background noise during the run in grooves and in a couple of the quieter passages, overall a really great, clear and lively listen.

The matrix nos. are; ZAL-8598-1W, stamper 1-BU, ZAL-8599-1W, stamper 1-BU. This is one of the later copies of the 1st pressing of the original 1969 UK stereo issue of this album!
