Media Grade:  NM (top copy, I've kept well preserved, in MOFI sleeve, played delicately, happy to send soundclips!)
Sleeve Grade:  VG+ (light storage wear, isolated chipping on spine, one inch slice *not full split, top seam upper left hand area, light discoloration on back cover, overall a fairly nice copy, see photos!)
Year / Label / Catalogue #:   1975  /  Emanem Records (Indie label, *insert joke about how until Dre came along!*)  / 3306 Stereo (1st press)
Brief Comments: Utilizing multi-tracking, recordings of Radio, tape splicing, Kent Carter composed these all originals on the label best known for some of Steve Lacy's avant jazz lps, he is joined on A6 by Phillip Ponchon on a second Cello, and B2 by Michala Marcus on Flute & Melodica, basically Kent Carter was a master Cello / Double-Bass player, who had an idea for a very experimental album, utilizing in particular the Cello, but also double-bass, recordings of the Radio, and I first got into this record, ironically enough because of Dr. Dre, a comment he made, about loving the sound of Cellos, how it adds, got me intrigued, I found some rare classical Cellist lps (Janos Starker, Jacqueline Du Pre, Daniel Shafran, my personal favorite & keeper "Ennio Bolognini"), which by the way, on that RCA Daniel Shafran classical grail is a 30 second line that is soooo Chronic 2001 style(!), Cello is still my favorite classical instrument (or instrument most associated with classical music), but this one blew me out of the water! It's avant-garde, but very accessible, listenable (it's not "harsh", or "atonal" at all), it's got very rhythmic tracks, like A1, A4, B2, that are difficult to describe, it's definitely jazzy throughout, an ambient pulse pervading it, hypnotic, from front to back, as if Ron Carter took LSD at the Peabody Conservatory, with full access to mixing consoles, tape splicing, a radio to field record, and just did how he felt.....
Now, anyone whose followed, seen the auctions past (and to come in future!), knows the level of jazz-funk, rare groove, "classic" & Modern Soul, I'm into. I'll admit, other than maybe Sun Ra (who I don't personally think of as Free Jazz), and a few accessible outliers, this would be unusual. Well, to my jazz-funk, rare groove, 4/4 syncopated funk drumming fam, as well as spiritual jazz, modal jazz fam, I invite you to consider this addition, because it is a breath of fresh air, needed in between, for samplers, there's so much untapped matierial to add that extra special spice to your beats, and because it is, in the words of Miles Davis, who made distinctions of music on one criteria, that being "good music", it's good music, it isn't trying to be difficult or pretentious for the sake of a misguided attempt to impress John Cage fans, it isn't an experiment in "how atonal, harsh, abrasive, can we make this, until only one "esteemed" critic at the New Yorker can pretend he listened to it and called it music (I say he, because I have found women music critics don't play, Yvonne Daniels for example), it's not a derivative record, there's nothing else quite like it, but it's not purposely the sole aim "to be as different as possible", it's Kent Carter, trying to be as Kent Carter, as possible, the human creative spirit inside, using his gifts, to make a vision come to life, and that is what really sets it apart, he succeeds completely.
He recorded with Paul Bley, Steve Lacy, Mal Waldron, Noah Howard, Robin Kenyatta, Carla Bley, several times in Japan with top Jazz players there... the 1978 Children at Play ECM lp, the dope modal jazz lp by Bobby Bradford also on Emanem, he even did a French library record in 1986(!), electronics, and his trusty Cello, among many recordings.
He has other solo recordings, but none I think capture something so complete, so uniquely Kent Carter, something about it, you just want to play it again, and each time you pick up on things you didn't before, it's never a boring listen, it's one I still very much would want to hang on to, but I also know it's time to let it go to a new home, to bring that magic, that special indescribable feeling, I and others have gotten on each spin.... May it go to a loving home :)
Gorgeous OG press, rare as hen's teeth! :)

*Tariffs aren't going to impact used vinyl records / music media, we wish they were never in place at all, so for international buyers, don't worry on that account!
For our record grading, we stand by the merits outlined in the scale below, anything VG or below will have a detailed explanation in brackets next to the grade.
For sleeves, we will mention anytime there is split, or defect not visible in the photos in brackets next to the grade, otherwise we refer to the photos for the merit of the grade. Of course any questions, concerns, are always welcome :)
Our media grading scale is as follows: [*Quick note, our VPI is still in storage on the other side of the US, we do brush clean many  items carefully, but we have to prioritize, we won't leave anyone stranded with a filthy record, only "filthy" good! We don't factor dust particles into the grading]
NM = Essentially a pristine album, like new, rarely used.
EX = Under bright light if there is any scuffs or mark, which will be inaudible, most collectors and sellers would tend to consider it closer to NM, EX is also the grade others might call VG++ under the same level of conservative scrutiny.
VG+ = More then a small handful of scuffs, light marks, nothing feelable, will have high-gloss, a thoroughly enjoyable copy that may only have tiny moments of barely perceptible surface noise overpowered by the music. Our VG+ will satisfy the vast majority of collectors as a nice keeper copy, as collector's ourselves for nearly two decades, this grade is aimed to be a great keeper. Note if say the record has a light DNAP warp, but otherwise is NM, we will automatically put it to VG+ and detail that. Another scenario is if a copy plays at a solid EX, but visually is VG, the composite grade will be VG+, and detailed as such.
VG = More hairlines, more marks, maybe a few visible scratches, no more then two feelable scratches (which automatically lowers to VG-), there likely will be surface noise, but will play through, still being an enjoyable copy, the audio quality will satisfy most collector's (the golden rule: if it doesn't satisfy us, it won't be VG), if a record is otherwise EX, but has a slight momentary skip, where 99% of the record is EX, we will note that, and put it at VG. Usually will retain a nice gloss.
VG- = More Scratches than VG, surface noise will jump out more, it be overpowered for longer stretches, or compete with the music in places, it will likely play all the way through on most turntables, a copy that you can still get a decent play enjoyment from.
G+ = Lots of scratches, deeper ones, surface noise now mostly overpowers or competes with the music. It may skip in some places. We don't tend to sell G+ copies, unless the rarity is so great, and that will be precisely detailed.
Thrashed = Pretty much a "Theoretical Grade" for us, it be for all intents & purposes virtually unplayable, it would be for display purposes, or perhaps if you needed the cover but not the record. It's "theoretical" because so far we haven't sold or identified anything intended to sell at this bottom level.
Every item is guaranteed to YOUR satisfaction, no questions asked, 100% refund. We stand by our integrity, our goal is to make sure you are absolutely delighted with your purchase, to deliver a cherished album to your collection :). On the slightest chance of human error, if we make a mistake, we take accountability for that, we don't anyone to have a record they aren't happy with! Bid with confidence :)
If you have multiple items, please wait for us to combine shipping for you! We can combine up to 4 items for the standard shipping rate, and save you $ on additional items. We don't charge a single penny over what the shipping costs, so you are paying only the amount the postal service receives!

We have it set to 5 day shipping / handling time, as a just in case, typically about 98.7% of our orders are shipped out the day of payment (first day the post office is open), with the vast majority being the second day. We'll message on the extraordinary off-chance if doesn't go out on Tuesday (our auctions mostly ending on Saturdays, Sundays), with the reason and day it will go out, so far that's only happened once on a giant order, and all was well.
