Kinda Kinks is the second studio album by the English rock band The Kinks, released in 1965. It was recorded immediately after the return of the group from an Asian tour, and was completed and released within two weeks. Consequently, the production was rushed and, according to Ray Davies, the band was not completely satisfied with the final cuts. Due to record company pressure, however, no time was available to fix certain flaws present in the mix. Ray Davies has expressed his dissatisfaction towards the production not being up to par. Commenting on this, he said:
“ A bit more care should have been taken with it. I think (producer) Shel Talmy went too far in trying to keep in the rough edges. Some of the double tracking on that is appalling. It had better songs on it than the first album, but it wasn't executed in the right way. It was just far too rushed. ”-Ray Davies, Kinda Kinks CD liner notes.
It was released in the United States with a different, rearranged, track listing and repackaged cover. Several tracks were removed as well, and the single "Set Me Free" was unique to the album's US release. .
Original First Press second Kinks album on the very collectible PYE label - a hard find these days!!!! The audio of this disc is truly stunning!!! I have heard first presses of this album a few times before, but none of them could match this absolute stunner!!!!
Vinyl: EX+!! Extremely hard to find this album nowadays. This is a very heavy glossy vinyl!! Beautiful deep glossy vinyl without any visible lines in plain daylight. Under an intense bright light a couple of wispy hairlines can be spotted. None of these affect the replay which is simply ASTOUNDING!!! I played it through all the way. I am glad to be able to report that the vinyl plays through all the way, side 1 and 2. A real credit to this heavy vinyl with high groove walls, PURE QUALITY!!!! The lightest of static can only be heard during the silent grooves in between the tracks. The audio is topnotch!
This album is extremely scarce, most of these are now in major collections around the globe. This is the second most sought after Kinks album and the quality of the songs says all. How many will still survive to this day??? This is the real deal, the way it was first issued!!! Even the original PYE inner is there!! As such this album is a very worthy upgrade!!!
I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! These tracks ...... you can hear them a thousand times but they will never ever bore you. There are not any jumps or skips. There is not too much background noise at all!! Very remarkable for this 1965 vinyl!!! I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B&W three way speakers!!!
Sleeve: VG+ to EX. Front laminated and three flipbacks are all intact!! Only tiny wispy edge underlaminate creases and "mini" bumps on corners. .... Nice!!! Otherwise this sleeve is really spectacular WITHOUT any creases or writing. It will be hard to find this in better shape. The colours are still bright as on the day it was first issued 46 years ago.
