KING CRIMSON In The Court Of The Crimson King - (Incredibly rare UK pink Island label 5-track stereo vinyl LP - the almost mythical pressing with machine stamped A2/B2 matrix numbers with E.J.DAY GATEFOLD SLEEVE
ISLAND ILPS - 9111 1969 UK
MATRIX NUMBERS; SIDE 1; ILPS 9111 A2
SIDE 2; ILPS 9111 B2
If you want an original and incredibly rare version of this fantastic album then please look no further, I can not even begin to say how this version is worlds apart from most - if not all others on eBay!
VINYL; IN NORMAL DAYLIGHT THE VINYL LOOKS SUPERB AND AS NEW , ON CLOSER INSPECTION THERE CAN BE SEEN JUST A FEW VERY LIGHT SURFACE MARKS WHICH ARE COMPLETELY HARMLESS. PLAYS SUPERBLY WITH SOME INEVITABLE VERY LIGHT SURFACE NOISE IN QUIETER PASSAGES. A NOTORIOUS RECORD FOR SURFACE NOISE, THIS IS ONE OF THE BETTER COPIES I HAVE SEEN. GRADED AS EXCELLENT
Please note that the following passage is from a website http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=453012 - this is proof of just how rare this record is!!
Apparently A1/B1 matrices versions of this album do not (officially) exist, rumoured to have been destroyed for one reason or another, but at least one copy has surfaced so obviously not all were - this version apparently has a different track banding to later pressings.
The A2/B2 edition is therefore regarded as the REAL first pressing. It has textured Island labels indicating that it was pressed at a Polydor plant. By 1970 Island had switched most of their pressing to EMI who used a smooth label.
Normally the issues that are found are smooth label with A2/B4 matrices - i.e. EMI pressed from late 1969 to 1970. This, in fact, covers the vast majority of the pink Island label issues of this album.
It would seem that (excepting the A1/B1 anomaly) all the pink label A sides have the A2 or A3 matrix. The B sides had either B2 (rough label, extremely rare), B4 (smooth label, more common) or B3 - previously only rumoured to exist. We are now more than happy to confirm this!!
As you can see from the above, this record is a collectors dream, it is A2 B2 with rough textured labels manufactured at the Polydor plant.....most copies of this record have smooth labels but as you can see mine has the double grooves on the label.....the crazy thing is, I bought this record from a 2nd hand market about 20 years ago, my dad could not believe the condition of it.....far better than his, I recently learnt that this is now a collectors item so decided to research it....it was then I realised that what I had was an absolute gem! I have been told that it is worth up to £500.00!!!! Please note that I have only played this record once, it has been stored in a box under my bed for the last 20 years so no sunlight or warping damage at all!!
LABELS; LABELS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO WRITING OR FADING.
SLEEVE; THE E.J.DAY GATEFOLD SLEEVE WITH THE "BASING STREET" CREDIT IS OVERALL IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH JUST SOME LIGHT FEATHERING TO EDGES, MINOR CORNER BUMPS AND SLIGHT WEAR TO TOP EDGE OF BACK SLEEVE-HARDLY NOTICABLE.
NICE SPINE WHICH ARE GENERALLY ALWAYS COMPLETELY WORN BUT THIS ONE CLEARLY READS- IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING AN OBSERVATION BY KING CRIMSON ILPS 9111.
THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF PROG ROCK EVER...IN MY OPINION. YOU MAY NEVER GET ANOTHER CHANCE TO OWN ONE OF THE RAREST PRESSINGS OF THIS RARE RECORD -GRAB AN 'ORIGINAL' WHILE YOU CAN!
I will NOT post outside the EU and after selling to a complete idiot in Japan I will not accept returns....I have taken loads of pictures of this record and sleeve so you know exactly what you are buying, the item will be sent special delivery but please note AIRSURE is £18.00 due to insurance!
NB - MY EBAY LISTING WILL ONLY ALLOW ME TO ENTER A MAXIMUM OF £4.00 POSTAGE, DUE TO THE VALUE OF THIS RECORD AND INSURANCE I WILL REQUIRE £12.00 FOR SPECIAL DELIVERY....I WILL THEREFORE REQUIRE AN ADDITIONAL £8.00 ON TOP OF SELLING AND POSTAGE FEE. IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO CHANGE THIS PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!
I HAVE INCLUDED ANOTHER PICTURE OF THE B2 MATRIX NUMBER FROM THE B SIDE ON THE RECORD AS THE OTHER PICTURE FOR SOME REASON DOES LOOK SUSPICIOUSLY LIKE B3, YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE B2 ON THIS PIC!!
I have looked at every single King Crimson - In the court of the crimson king record on eBay. NOT ONE has the double grooves and NOT ONE is A2 B2 .....except one person who claims this in the title - imposible as it is the later palm tree island label! So many listing claim '1st pressing' - this is absolute rubbish and do not believe it! Every single record is A2 B3/B4 or A3/B3 etc. What you have here is the real deal and ridiculously rare - google it!
