KING CRIMSON
STARLESS & BIBLE BLACK
(UK ISLAND, ILPS 9275, 1974)
RARE FIRST UK PRESSING of this iconic King Crimson album - one of my personal favourites. Finding first UK pressings on the 'pink rim' Island label is incredibly difficult, especially in nice shape and with the inner sleeve! What makes this particular pressing very interesting is that it is a definite CONTRACT PRESSING!! Both label are textured at the centre section and the matrix stampers do not look like the regular EMI ones and also have a different configuration (see below). I have NEVER seen one of these contract pressings before and they are very rare indeed! Finding a KC contract pressing is very unusual - Beatles albums and singles are well known to have contract pressings as the demand for their records were so high, EMI could not always keep up and had to pay other labels to press them too! But finding a contract pressing of an album that did not sell hugely at the time is very unusual indeed! Great stuff! Don't miss out!
Vinyl is in EX(+) condition : a few light marks which do not sound, plays great with light surface noise, lovely example
Textured gatefold sleeve is EX condition : very light ring wear, front and back a little yellowed around edges and a little grubby as usual but not bad, bottom left corner and bottom of spine have a little brown staining (tea perhaps?), spine a little worn but still legible, inside looks great
Inner sleeve is in EX condition : lovely shape, light handling creases, light disc imprint, small split on the left side in the centre, nice
