King Earl Boogie Band - Trouble At Mill
(Dawn DNLS 3040 UK LP)
Paul King and Colin Earl from Mungo Jerry together with Strawb (and Fire!) man Dave Lambert helped out and one track and production by Dave Cousins. Musically there are obvious similarities to Mungo Jerry’s boogie bluesy style but with occasional flashes of a folk based proggy feel which comes from the Strawbs sort of direction, as great as this is because it shows just how good these guys are it leaves you frustrated as they return to the boogie styles, you get the feeling that if they’d decided to make a progressive album it could have been one of the greats!
Lovely copy with the textured sleeve, record and giant poster all in top condition.
Tracks:
Bad Storm Coming
Take Me Back
Live Your Own Kife P. Mc.
Bovver Blues
Plastic Jesus
If The Lord Don’t Get You
Goin’ To German
Keep Your Hands Off My Woman
Go Down You Murderers
Condition: EX/M-
Sleeve:
The sleeve is in extremely strong condition, especially considering how delicate it is. It’s a standard single sleeve design made of thick card with a deep textured finish.
The front sleeve is in lovely shape, it’s extremely clean with no tears or writing anywhere. There are a couple of very small very light creases coming in from the spine about half way up but those aside there are no defects at all. The textured finish still has a notably rough feel as it should, so often you see these type of sleeves worn smooth through excessive handling but this is fine. The colourful design is bright and vibrant, this is as good as you could possibly hope for.
The rear sleeve is in equally nice shape. Because of the finish and the large plain black area in the design this is a sleeve which is always prone to wear (especially ringwear) but there is no wear at all on show here, not even any light rubbing where the sleeve has been taken on and off the shelf. There are no tears or writing antwhere and only one extremely small crease coming in from the spine. This is obviously a record which has come from a good home and been extremely well cared for.
The spine is clean and wide, there is a couple of very (very!) small patches of wear where those tiny creases cross the spine but all of the writing is clearly readable. The spine is still notably pinched at either end as it should be.
The top seam is totally unworn.
The bottom seam has some very moderate wear where it’s been stood on a shelf. Put it in a PVC sleeve (which I’ll supply) and it won’t get any worse.
The large poster is present and in perfect condition. It’s obviously never spent any time on a wall as there’s no hint of any pin holes, blue tack residue or anything else which could indicate hanging. You won’t find a better copy!
Record:
The record is in equally beautiful condition. Like most Dawn pressings it’s made of fairly thick vinyl which looks to be normal black vinyl but when held up to the light changes to a deep dark wine red colour. This is extremely clean and has a beautiful dark reflective shine, obviously hasn’t been played much and been well cared for when it has been out of the sleeve. In normal light there are no surface marks visible at all, even when held under an extremely harsh lamp there are no surface marks of any kind visible, not even any light hairline marks, visually this is just in great condition.
The two labels are in fine condition, very clean with no writing, tears or stickers anyhere and very little discernible spindle wear, all of the writing is clearly readable. The matrix numbers stamped into the dead wax are DNLS 3040 A1 and B1.
When played the disc is every bit as god as it’s visual appearance. The sound is clean and clear, right across the full dynamic range it has a vibrancy which just leaps out of the speakers. The bass is deep and full. There is no sign of any groovewear or distortion at all and right throughout the record there is no sign of any surface noise, even between tracks is crackle and rumble free.
It will be a long time before you get a chance at another copy of this album in a condition which comes close to matching this one!
