Description
Accepting bids for incredibly scarce 1923 78 record King Oliver's Jazz Band/Young Creole Jazz Band performing "Southern Stomps/Dearborn Street Blues" respectively. Very early Louis Armstrong, before the Hot Five and Hot Seven years. Red wax on the blue Paramount label, 12088A/B. Condition is hard to ascertain. I lack the proper equipment, but did play it once on a friend's gramaphone. Good fidelity but a steady hiss as one would expect from a 78 of 85-year vintage. There are some small, feelable scratches on the King Oliver side, some scuffing on both, while the Young Creole Jazz Band side has two small chips on the outer edges (not on the part which plays). I have tried to photograph the record in such a way that you can see the imperfections. Would benefit from a proper cleaning, but I deal in 45s and 33s and will leave it to a 78 specialist. Not pristine, by any means, but desirable. From the estate of wife/husband Helen Ward and William Savory, the former a singer for and love interest of Benny Goodman and the latter one of the engineers who invented the full-play 33rpm record.
