Description

redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This beautiful LP from RCA Victor (LM-1172, US pressing, plum dog label – ED1, mono) features Serge Koussevitzky and the Boston Symphony Orchestra's incandescent performance of Sibelius' Symphony No. 2 in D Major Op. 43, recorded in the rich acoustics of Symphony Hall, Boston on 29 November 1950. Although his Sibelius discography is more slender than those of Beecham or Karajan, it is no less important, and if his 'live' BBC SO Seventh Symphony remains his most renowned Sibelius performance, this magnificent account of the Fifth Symphony  remains a landmark is the Sibelius discography.

There are fine liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only. The striking cover design is similarly uncredited.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is slight bumping/wear at corners, as well as mild shelfwear and discoloration. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings, and the whole remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector’s copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
