This handsome LP from London (CS 6007, LP pressed by Decca in the UK / jacket printed in the USA, red/silver ffrr NB label, stereo) entitled "The Blue Danube" features conductor Josef Krips and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in smiling performances of waltzes by Johann (II) and Josef Strauss*, warmly recorded in the rich acoustics of the Sofiensaal, Vienna, on 9 September 1957.
The exact contents are as follows:
Accelerationen Waltz Op. 234
Kaiser-Walzer (Emperor Waltz) Op. 437
An der schönen, blauen Donau (The Blue Danube) - Walzer Op. 314
Pizzicato Polka* (jointly composed by Johann Jr. & Josef Strauss)
Rosen aus dem Süden (Roses from the South) - Walzer Op. 388
These performances are wonderfully imbued with authentic Old World Viennese charm and the VPO play magnificently throughout. Moreover, the sound is absolutely first rate.
The reverse side of the jacket carries insightful liner notes by Peter Gammond, provided in English only. The charming cover photo was provided by the Austrian State Tourist Bureau.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is mild discoloration and corner bumping, but really that is all – a very fine collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
PLEASE NOTE:
This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve. The images I've provided are of the actual item you are potentially bidding on - these are not stock images or images I've taken from other sites. Bid with confidence!
