redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful LP – a superb collector’s copy – from Mercury (MG 50006, US pressing, plum / silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features Rafael Kubelik and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s trenchant account of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B minor Op. 74 “Pathetique”, made in the fabled acoustics of Orchestra Hall, Chicago, on 21 April 1952.
This remarkable album was produced by C. Robert Fine and engineered by George Piros.
There are splendid liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Josef Marx, provided in English only. The wonderful cover art was executed by George Maas.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the front laminated jacket is EXCELLENT. Really, this is close to NM. There is faint shelfwear and mild discoloration to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no bends, seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not completely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), this is a fine copy and playback is superb. However, if you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP – this is a lovely collector's copy.
